IDTTL 2018 Championships

Report:

Hutchinson ends Collins dominance. March 2018.

IDTTL League Championships, 17th and 18th February 2018, Kesgrave Sports Hall, Grange Farm.
A change in venue brought a change in fortune for a number of players at the Ipswich and District Table Tennis Championships with Richard Hutchinson winning the title for the first time since 2005, and Gracie Edwards taking her first Ladies title. Both Men\'s and Ladies events were wide open and Edwards, playing in her first Ipswich Championships battled through against the more experienced Alice Flatman. Men\'s No 1 seed and 8-time champion Ryan Collins cruised through to the final once again but met a revitalised Richard Hutchinson, who has been playing some of the best Table Tennis of his life in recent years, and showed great concentration to close out a closely fought final set to take his 5th Ipswich title. It was without a doubt one of the best finals seen at the event for a number of years.
In the absence of Jake Collins, the Men\'s Doubles final saw a new pairing of Ryan Collins and Dan Shelley take on Richard Hutchinson and Andy Warner. Having been disappointed last year, another close match saw the experience of Hutchinson and Warner come through to take the title, whilst in the Ladies event newcomers Gracie Edwards and Miriam Hetzel proved too strong for the pairing of Clair Westlake and Alice Flatman.
In other events, the Mixed Doubles was won by Ryan Collins and Clair Westlake, whilst the Veteran\'s Final saw Andy Warner beat Richard Hutchinson to take his 10th title in the event.
The Junior Boys final found Dan Shelley too strong for the rapidly improving Daniel Young, who won the weekend\'s Berni Studd performance award for a fantastic win against highly rated Charlie Fulcher who himself took the super-vets title.
The Junior girls title was won by Gracie Edwards, whilst the Cadet event saw Daniel Young prove too strong for the impressive McKenzie Lowe. The performances from a number of Juniors over the weekend suggests that the more senior league players need to watch out!
The Junior Doubles was taken by Shelley and Lowe, whilst the Restricted Singles was won by Sylvain Floury for the second year running after a very entertaining battle with Shirish Basant.
A huge well done to all who took part, organized or supported such another successful event.
